Paul Lyons of the legendary Fort Thunder collective of Providence, RI has recently relaunched the anthology Monster under his own imprint Hidden Fortress Press. The latest release of the anthology is a beautiful limited edition collection of 3 volumes, bound in a screen-printed wrap. The interiors of each volume are printed in 2-color offset with letterpress covers illustrated by Heather Benjamin who also provided the amazing artwork for the outer wrap.

All together it consists of 200 pages of comics by an impressive line-up: Tom Toye, Edie Fake, Brittany Hague, Jon Vermilyea, Leif Goldberg, Mike Taylor, Sam Dollenmayer, Michael Deforge, Keith Jones, Mickey Zacchilli, Marc Bell, Molly O’Connell, Seth Cooper, Devin Flynn, Lale Westvind, Jordan Crane, Brian Ralph, Mollie Goldstrom, Paul Lyons, Mat Brinkman, Roby Newton, Walker Mettling, Andy Neal and Kevin Hooyman

Here are some stand-outs:

lw
Lale Westvind’s contribution is a psychedelic freakshow of sex and death attractions. The piece has a great rhythm and the hand-drawn type really brings the pages to life.
ef
Edie Fake’s contribution is a horrifying psychological narrative of gruesome torture. Edie’s steady linework stands out in this story that in incorporates food in a very twisted way.
mb
Mat Brinkman’s contribution is a rare treat, leaving you wanting more. Mat’s story is wordless tale of dungeon fantasy horror delivered by one of the best of that genre.
mo
Mollie Goldstrom contributed another wordless piece which appears to be a story of an art trading encounter gone bad. The pacing of the story is very precise, much like the delicate linework of her drawings.
sd
Sam Dollenmayer’s piece provides some humor and very nice inkwork with a shapeshifting fantasy contribution from his ongoing story MirrorriM.
