Mary Timony, the force behind Helium and Ex Hex, is back with a more personal solo album, “Untame the Tiger.” Here, she confronts heartbreak and loss head-on, the sting of a long-term breakup compounded by the passing of both her parents during recording.

The result is a raw and honest collection of songs. Timony’s signature guitar mastery remains, evident in the inventive tunings and guitar-fuzz solos that punctuate the tracks – but in a more stripped-down fashion. “Untame the Tiger” may expose Timony’s heartache, but the music still rocks like only she can.
